School Community & Events
At Carden Memorial School, our calendar offers our students, families, and faculty a year of growth, celebration, and unity.
August
Summer Camp: Before the start of the new school year, students from 1st through 6th grade have the chance to review subjects, rekindle friendships, and prepare for the road ahead.
September
- Parent Back-to-School Night: On September 12 parents have an opportunity to meet their child’s teachers, understand the curriculum, and learn how to support their child’s success.
- Carden Pancake Breakfast: Kicking off the academic year, this event brings families together for a morning of pancakes and music on the school lawn.
October
- Carden Fall Carnival: Held the Friday before Halloween, our 7th and 8th graders organize a festive event with games, a costume parade, and treats, celebrating the creativity and spirit of the season.
- Book Fair: An October tradition that promotes reading, allowing students and families to explore and purchase books.
November
- Annual Fundraising Gala: An evening of fine dining, entertainment, and an auction to help raise funds for continued upgrades to our school building.
- Thanksgiving Feast: A beloved tradition where Pre-K to 1st grade comes together to share a meal and give thanks.
- Veterans Day Program: An assembly that honors our veterans, instilling a sense of gratitude and patriotism with presentations, poetry, and musical performances by students.
December
- Christmas Choral Concert:
- The Lower School (1st – 3rd grades) present songs and poems.
- The Upper School (4th—8th grades) showcase both playful and sacred songs and poems.
Christmas Nativity Program: Jr. Kindergarten and Kindergarten students present the Nativity, sharing the story of Christmas through a recitation of Luke 2, poems, and songs. They portray the story of shepherds, angels, wise men, Mary and Joseph, all in costume.
January
- Founder’s Day Devotional: A day dedicated to honoring our founders, Mr. and Mrs. Jeffs and Miss Carden, with stories, pictures, and performances, showing gratitude for their vision and sacrifice.
- Winter ski program for 6th – 8th grade students.
February
- Schoolwide Penmanship Contest: Celebrating the art of handwriting, students across all grades participate in this national contest, emphasizing neat, legible penmanship.
- Spelling Bee: Students in 4th through 8th grade compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, starting at the school level with opportunities to advance regionally.
March
- Math Bowl: A competition that highlights our students’ math skills, fostering problem-solving, teamwork, and academic excellence.
April
- American History Tour (last week of April through the first week of May): A 10 day educational journey for our 8th graders, visiting historical sites and monuments that define our nation’s heritage.
- Book Fair: A second opportunity in the academic year for our community to engage with literature, enriching our students’ love for reading.
May
- Carden Spring Social: An evening of games, music, and community dining on the school playground, welcoming the warmth and joy of spring.
- 8th Grade Graduation: A significant ceremony marking the completion of our students’ journey at Carden, celebrating their achievements and the promising path ahead.
- Blue and White Day: The last day of school is filled with team competitions, celebrating sportsmanship and school spirit, concluding with an end-of-year assembly.
